Just as the catalog title "Tutti
Putti" implies, it's all putti, those cherubic
figures with the corkscrew curls and
mischievous expressions. Working with
the Italian maestro of hot-glass sculpting,
Pino Signoretto, Dale Chihuly has created a
company of pudgy putti to cavort on his
Venetians and frolic among the blossoms
of the Ikebana. Published on the occasion
of Chihuly's 1991 solo exhibition at the
Pence Gallery in Santa Monica, the
text-less catalog proves that a picture is
worth a thousand words. Here it adds up
to 25,000 with the luscious close-up
views of the works and how they are
made by photographers Russell Johnson
and Nick Gunderson.
