Product Description

This piece was retired but there are a limited number still available.

Henry Geldzahler, former curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, offers an observation of Dale Chihuly's Persian series: "The individual elements composing the Persians simulate the rhythms and forces of life." Dale Chihuly's baroque sensibility is set free in his dynamic Persian series, in which drama and restraint coexist in intimate groupings.

Tango Red Persian, a 2004 Portland Press Studio Edition, embodies the passionate verve of the artist's Persian series. Hot red lines wrap around the fluted bodies of the two handblown elements, coiling out to confront contrasting turquoise lip wraps. Embraced within the larger form, the smaller element asserts itself on a spherical foot. Both pieces seem to sway as they interact with light. This beautiful work, measuring approximately eleven inches across, is signed by Chihuly and is complimented by a Plexiglas vitrine with black base.

To further enrich appreciation of this piece, included with the ensemble is the hardcover publication Chihuly Persians, which features fifty-eight color images and an insightful essay by museum curator Tina Oldknow.

Tango Red Persian articulates Chihuly's delight in the lively tensions that can be expressed in glass, and in the diverse possibilities of composition in the Persian series.
