Extending beyond the edge of the page and interplaiting one within the other, the overall composition of Floatsome and Jetsam is one that articulates the active gestural qualities which typify many of Dale Chihuly’s paintings. Radiant turquoise and orange spotting shapes the central body of each Float, while broad red and thin blue concentric lines extend the surface of the floats. Doubling at the center of the print, the floats enter into a complex interchange of form, space, and color which intensifies the active quality of the composition. As if marked by a maelstrom, the two floats that comprise the original limited edition print Floatsome and Jetsam are an exercise in unrestrained momentum.
