Dale Chihuly's remarkable glass forms are born out of his insatiable desire to create, to experiment, to challenge the known boundaries of glassblowing. Once again, he succeeds with the introduction of the Jerusalem Cylinders, celebrated in this small book. Commemorating the opening of his monumental exhibition, "Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem 2000," Chihuly has created some of his most complex pieces yet. The Jerusalem Cylinders are a paradox of composition with the cone and vase-shaped bodies supporting precariously balanced crystal chunks. The translucence and apparent delicate nature of the pieces belie their solidity and the incredible technical skill employed by Team Chihuly in the glassblowing process. As a preface Chihuly has included several endearing and personal faxes to his young son, Jackson Viola Chihuly (aka Mighty Mouse), about the development of the Jerusalem Cylinders and the Jerusalem project as a whole. Commentary by Willam Warmus.
