Product Description
"I learned more from watching Italo
[Scanga] make a bowl of pasta than all the
graduate seminars put together," declares
Dale Chihuly in Dr. M. Susan Duval's
revealing essay "Brothers in Art" in
"Angels & Saints." The two artists have
been friends since Chihuly's graduate
student days at the Rhode Island School
of Design in the late 1960s, sharing many
bowls of pasta since then and nurturing
each other aesthetically. Duval explores
their personal and artistic relationship and
concludes that "for Chihuly, Scanga is a
palpable reminder of the European
tradition, however hip the update." The
catalog accompanied the 1994 exhibition
at the Susan Duval Gallery in Aspen,
Colorado, that presented works by Scanga
and Chihuly plus 11 collaborative works
done between 1991 and 1994.
